The past weekend was a marvelous advert for Down club football with three hugely entertaining County finals across the Junior, Intermediate and Senior grades.

In the Morgan Fuels Senior final it took extra time to separate Kilcoo and Warrenpoint. Ryan Johnston scored a first half goal that gave Kilcoo some breathing space and, over the game Paul Devlin and Michael Rooney were key scorers with 0-5 and 0-3 respectively. Warrenpoint scored three points in the last ten minutes to force extra time – Alan Davidson being their main marksman with a total of 0-7 to his name. In extra time Kilcoo started brilliantly and went four ahead but the Point refused to lie down and got it back to a point only to fall just short.

We congratulate all our winners on their achievements and commiserate with all the beaten finalists.

Every one of the clubs can be proud of what they have done in the Championship this year.
