£5,000 Charitable Donations

This year, in lieu of Christmas gifts, Morgan Fuels donated £1,000.00 to each of the following very worthwhile causes: RNLI, Southern Area Hospice Services, Irish Hospice Foundation, Marie Curie and Newry Gateway Club!

The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. Powered primarily by kind donations, the search and rescue service has been saving lives for nearly 200 years. Today, they work harder than ever to end preventable drowning. In addition to a 24/7 search and rescue lifeboat service, they operate a seasonal lifeguard service. Every year, volunteer lifeboat crews and lifeguards help and rescue thousands of people and have saved over 143,900 lives since 1824. Countless more lives are saved through youth education and water safety work.

Southern Area Hospice Services provide invaluable care and support to patients with life limiting illnesses including Cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease, HIV and Aids. Their services are available to patients who live within the Southern Health Board region.

This high-quality care extends beyond the Hospice into the community and the hospital services. Its aim is to enhance the quality of life for patients by responding to the physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual and social needs and supporting families and carers, thus enabling each person to live every day to the full.

Southern Area Hospice Services relies heavily on the generosity of local people and the support of volunteers who help staff deliver services in many ways, from patient care to fundraising.

Irish Hospice Foundation (IHF) is a national charity that addresses dying, death and bereavement in Ireland. Their vision is an Ireland where people facing end of life or bereavement, and those who care for them, are provided with the care and support that they need.

Founded by Mary Redmond in 1986, IHF began with the aim to extend availability of hospice services across the country, promote awareness of the hospice approach and develop research and education.

Since then, IHF has grown to develop programmes in education, research and bereavement services. Bringing hospice principles into acute hospitals and residential care settings and are working to extend palliative care to non-malignant conditions. 

Marie Curie is the UK’s leading end of life charity. They provide frontline nursing and hospice care, a free support line and a wealth of information and support on all aspects of dying, death and bereavement.

They help people talk, plan and prepare, and to get things sorted in advance. Their frontline nurses, hospices and free support line will help individuals through your final years, months, days and hours of life. And the bereavement service will be there for the people they leave behind.

Researchers, policy experts and campaigners push the boundaries of knowledge around what makes a good death, and fight for a society where everyone gets the best experience possible at the end of their lives.

What is now the Newry & District Gateway Club, started in 1973, when a group of parents identified a need for young people with learning disabilities/ Downs to have more opportunities to socialise with their peers within their local community. A committee was born.  Its key purpose was to provide a social, recreational and respite opportunity for young adults with special needs within the Newry Mourne & South Armagh District area.

It is a society that is inclusive and adaptable to the needs of members. To provide a social outlet and leisure activities for adults and children with learning disabilities in the local area.  To achieve a society where all disabled people enjoy equality and fairness.  They exist to support any family that feels they need our assistance.
